Day 6 – Friday, July 25th

Well, this morning I had a first—I went swimming in the pond. I needed to check on the water pipes I’d placed in the lake to be sure they were positioned upright and in the right place. The only way to do that was to actually get in the water and see for myself. The first pipe was fine. The second one—good thing I went in—had tipped over and was sitting in very shallow water. I was able to move it into deeper water and set it upright again.

It was actually quite nice once I was in. At first it felt cold, but I adjusted quickly. I think I need to get a thermometer to measure the water temperature—it probably isn’t as cold as I imagine. I’d guess it’s in the 70s, but hard to say for sure without measuring.

My plan for the morning was to do a dump run, but when I checked the schedule online, I found out it’s only open Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays—so that was a no-go for today. Instead, I drove down to Princeton to pick up a few supplies and then headed over to the post office. I’d read online that they would accept packages for you, but it turns out that’s only true for USPS packages—not FedEx or UPS. So, I’ll need to look into Package Depot down in Calais as an alternative.

Later this evening, I came back across the pond by boat and spotted two loons. Loons are just the most amazing water birds—so elegant and fun to watch as they dive for fish. They really add something special to the atmosphere out here.

This is a shorter journal entry because I actually wrote one on the day but apparently didn’t save it—so I’m recreating this a couple of days later. Thankfully, I’ve been staying current otherwise. Hope you find it a little bit interesting. Thanks.
