Today was all about the U-Haul trailer and picking up the farm gates I bought from Facebook Marketplace. I left the camp around 9:00 a.m. and got to Lincoln by 10:00. On the way, I ordered breakfast from Dunkin’ Donuts via mobile a couple of miles outside town, hoping it would be quick. But when I pulled in, the drive-thru line was backed all the way out to the street. It looked like they were giving away free breakfasts. I ended up sitting in line for about 30 minutes. If you’re looking for a stock tip, Dunkin’ might be worth a look.

After breakfast, I headed off to pick up the trailer. The nearest U-Haul location that had what I needed was two hours away. I picked it up and drove back up, got the gates by 12:30, and was back in the area of the camp by about 1:30. I’d been concerned the trailer might not make it down Democrat Ridge Road because of the deep tire ruts and the high center potentially catching the axle. But fortunately, that turned out to be a non-issue.

Once I was back, I dropped off the first farm gate at the new road and went to retrieve the last few items still up at the old site—just a cardboard box, a fire pit, and my large Gorilla Cart wagon. I wanted to bring that wagon down to the marsh at the end of the road to see if it could be pulled across, and since I had the trailer, it seemed like the perfect time.

I loaded everything up and headed down to the marsh. I dropped off the wagon and began trying to turn the truck and trailer around in a tight spot. First attempt: cut too sharp. Second: not sharp enough. Third: too sharp again—and this time I wedged the trailer up against some debris: tree roots, logs, dirt. When I tried to pull forward, the truck just spun its wheels. Stuck.

Two hours later, after a lot of struggling, a couple of boat winches, and eventually unhooking the trailer, I was able to get the truck free. Hooked the trailer back up and got out of there.

Dropped off the second farm gate and decided to leave the trailer overnight at the township building parking lot. I didn’t want to risk trying to haul it down Democrat Ridge tomorrow morning when the loggers would be working. They usually start at 6:00 a.m. and can make a real mess of that road, so better safe than sorry.

Rounded out the day with a grocery run to Princeton, then back to the cabin for dinner and a movie. Tomorrow’s going to be another long day with the trailer return—two hours down, two hours back, plus whatever time the return takes. Doesn’t look like it’ll be the most productive day, but we’ll see.

Hope you all are having a good day. Talk to you later.
