Another driving day — and it’s dump day again! I headed down to Princeton on my way to Baileyville, making the usual stop at Old School Family Restaurant for a wonderful breakfast. After the dump run, I stopped by Package Depot in Calais to pick up a few deliveries, then headed back to the cabin to hook up the trailer for the return trip to Bangor.
The roofing company had said I could keep the trailer longer, but I decided it was better to get it off my plate and out of the way. On the drive, I stopped by a beautiful lake and called Aunt Millie, conferencing in Trudy for another delightful chat. Then it was on to Bangor to drop off the massive trailer — a relief to have that done.
From there, I swung by Home Depot, wandering the aisles and picking up a few supplies. The trip home was much more relaxing without the trailer in tow. I decided to stop in Lincoln, Maine, at the Lincoln House of Pizza — a place I’d passed many times but never tried. I enjoyed a leisurely dinner outside in downtown Lincoln. It’s a nice town with a lakeside park, gazebo, playground, and wide streets with diagonal parking. In true New England style, drivers stop to let you cross in the crosswalks, which reminded me of Wolfeboro, New Hampshire, a place we’ve loved for years.
Lincoln has some Wolfeboro-like charm but not quite the same polish — instead of rows of nice restaurants and gift shops, there’s a rehab and wellness center, and next to the one gift shop, a pawn shop (though they didn’t call themselves that). The sidewalks are asphalt rather than brick or stone, but overall, it’s still a pretty town.
On the way back, I called my former colleague Laura Ellis and caught up on news about our old workplace and the insurance business. By the time I made it back across the lake in the rowboat, it was after dark again — another long day.
