I woke up early today, though not because of the loggers — they apparently took the day off. It had been a warm night that never really cooled down, so an early start felt natural. I made a proper breakfast with coffee and took my time enjoying it before heading up to the roof to work while the morning was still bearable.
I started work by moving the tarp that had fallen off the roof yesterday. It was too heavy to move in one piece so I had to cut it up into 4 smaller, but more manageable, tarps.
Progress on the roof was steady but not spectacular. I’m hoping that tomorrow I can get the strapping in place and maybe even start putting some of the metal panels on at least one side of the roof. The heat made things challenging, with temperatures climbing into the 90s and forcing several rest breaks.
By mid-afternoon, I was getting a bit of cabin fever after being here for several days straight, so I drove down to Calais to the Walmart for a few supplies. On the way back, I picked up more ice for the cooler — something I’ve learned is worth keeping stocked, especially for cold drinks and fruit in this heat.
It’s shaping up to be another hot night, so I’ll try to get to bed early in hopes of catching some cooler hours in the morning.
