Hidey Ho Camp

Restoration of a Rustic 1964 Cabin

Day 29 – Sunday, August 17

It was a late morning today—I didn’t get up until 7:30. I took my time and enjoyed a nice, civilized start to the day. Made French press coffee and sat outside by the lake. The weather was perfect: calm, a gentle breeze, and the only sound was the water lapping on the shore.

After breakfast, I did some more tree trimming and cleared the path from the cabin to the marsh where I hope to build the walkway. I also organized some of the old roofing material on the ground, getting it ready for a future dump run. The cabin battery was running low, so I recharged it with the generator.

I put more time into my “spray foam log recreation experiment” on the deteriorated cabin logs. The previous owner’s patch job with dimensional lumber wasn’t a real fix, and I’m hoping this method—spray foam first, then epoxy later—will hold up. Still not sure it’ll work, but time will tell.

Inside, I made progress on the bathroom wall boards, which is especially satisfying since it’s starting to give the space a real finished feel. My little mouse friend made another appearance—he’s been around so much lately that I’m really going to have to give him a name.

Later, I enjoyed a shower using the solar shower Nick and Laura gave me for Christmas. Always nice to feel clean and not camp-stinky. As if on cue, the roof then got its own “shower test” with a long, drenching rainfall. I’m happy to report: no leaks. That’s a win.

All in all, a very good day.
