Well a lot has happened in the 4 days since the last update. Hurricane Helene hit North Carolina HARD. Just about everything is shut down. Trees down everywhere. One of the two roads for us to get out of our neighborhood is blocked by a landslide. We lost electric, water, cell service and internet. We finally found the sole remaining cell tower still operating about 5 miles from our house and where able to make some calls. One was to Gary at the Dirt Work Guys. He advised that they had looked at teh job and weren’t sure that they would be able to get close to our cabin due to some wet marshy areas they had seen. But they said they would get us as far as they could and they expected even if I can’t get a truck close to the cabin, if we had a side by side vehicle that could probably make it close to the cabin. He suggested we could take the truck as far as they could go, get in our side by side and get the rest of the way to the cabin. In case you don’t know, a side by side is a utility vehicle that has two seats side by side and a small utility bed in the back. They are much smaller and lighter than a full size truck so they are able to go places a regular truck cannot go. Anyway, the big news is that they would likely be able to start the job in a couple weeks! That is awesome news. We agreed on a price range that depended on how easy or difficult the trailblazing was and how far they were able to get.
You have to love the people in this area of Maine and actually this guy specifically. I asked how much he needed to be paid to start the job and he said ‘normally I get half to start and half when the job is done. But I got a feeling about you so you can just pay me when were done.’ It is nice to be trusted like that. I like this guy.
